Each year, Au Pair International invites host families to recognize the achievements of their au pair by nominating him/her for our annual Au Pair of the Year contest. We also select three nominees to be submitted to the National IAPA Au Pair of the Year contest where they will compete against other outstanding au pairs from around the world!

To be awarded Au Pair of the Year, we look for participants who will serve as a role-model for future au pair and cultural exchange participants. Someone who embodies all aspects of the au pair program to include going above and beyond to care for their host children, experience the American culture, and integrate into an American family.

Meet our contest winners below and discover how you can nominate your outstanding au pair for next years’ award!

2021 Contest Results

We are so proud of our au pair participants! Au Pair International received many wonderful nominations for the 2021 Au Pair of the Year Contest, all of whom deserve recognition for being outstanding au pairs. While 2020 presented a unique set of challenges, our participants tackled them head-on with awe-inspiring grace and determination. Sincere thanks to each host family that submitted a nomination in recognition of their achievements. We thoroughly enjoyed reading your stories!

Congratulations to Nadiia R. of Ukraine- Winner of our 2021 Au Pair of the Year Contest!

Arriving to the United States in February of 2020, Nadiia chose to be an au pair because “this program gives me chance to gain the wonderful experience as a part of an American family, learn more about your country, travel and explore The USA, the culture, traditions, and way of life.” Initially caring for 3 children in Colorado, Nadiia extended her program for an additional year with the Scheinfarb family in California, making an astounding difference in their lives. According to her host mom, “Nadiia has changed the dynamic of our family. She’s improved the quality of our lives and our children’s lives. And it’s not just because she’s here helping care for the kids. Having kids out of school for months on end and having everything closed and being on lockdown was a unique experience. Nadiia helped us to make the best of the situation with grace and enthusiasm. We cooked meals together, played games together, had long conversations, had movie nights, and ensured the two younger kids did their chores and online learning.

We are beyond lucky to have Nadiia as part of our family. She is not our au pair. She is, and always will be, our friend, and our family.” – the Scheinfarb family

Congratulations to Our Runner-Up Nominees!

Heartfelt congratulations to our Au Pair of the Year runner-up nominees, Hana Abiru and Erin Levendale!

Hana initially began her au pair program in Texas, extending for a second year with the Villagomez family in California. She spent 14 wonderful months caring for their 2 children before returning home to Japan, but will always be considered part of their extended family. Please click on the link below to discover why her host family nominated her for the Au Pair of the Year Award!Erin arrived to the U.S. in March of 2019 and has spent the last 2 years as au pair to 6 adoring children in Tennessee. More than an au pair, Erin has become their big sister and honorary member of the family.  “Erin quickly became part of our family. Our three youngest children adore her and often fight over who gets to sit next to her at the dinner table. Our seven-year-old son, Carter, has quite the crush on her. He tells her often how beautiful she is, especially when she is sporting a new hairstyle! Our oldest two girls talk to her about their favorite anime shows and Erin intently listens, even though she has no idea about what they are speaking. ” – The Hammonds Family
