Au Pair Introduction

Dear Host Family,

My name is Camila Andrea Niño Muñoz, I am 27 years old, and I am from Colombia. I currently live in Juneau, Alaska, where I have worked as an au pair for the past nine months. During this time, I have cared for three wonderful children: Paget (4 years old), Isolde (6 years old), and Nels (9 years old). Being an au pair has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, as it has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, while also strengthening my patience, communication skills, and organizational abilities.

Throughout this year, I have been responsible for helping with the children’s daily routines, including preparing their meals, taking them to their various activities such as piano practice, hockey practice, and swimming, helping them with their homework, organizing playtime, and maintaining structured schedules. I enjoy creating fun activities, board games, educational activities such as crafts, outdoor adventures, and fostering creativity through games and stories. Living in Alaska has also taught me to be adaptable, responsible, and self-confident, especially when driving and handling different weather conditions.

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Juneau and am very grateful for this experience, I would love to extend my year as an au pair in another state. I am excited about the opportunity to discover a new place, experience another community, and continue learning about American culture from a different perspective.

I come from a loving and hardworking family. My mother, Jenny, is a kindergarten teacher, which has greatly influenced my love for working with children. My father, Tomás, works as an event photographer, and my younger sister, Ximena, is 24 years old and works as an administrative assistant at BBVA bank. I was born and raised in Bogotá, where I studied International Business at Universidad Iberoamericana. Growing up in a supportive and responsible family environment has made me a caring, reliable, and independent person.

Before becoming an au pair, I gained experience caring for children of different ages. I worked for six months caring for two children, Ariadna (5 years old) and Steven (11 years old). I took on full-time responsibilities, including taking the children to and from school, preparing meals, helping with homework, maintaining hygiene, and organizing activities. I also supported my mother in educational settings, assisting younger children with daily routines and classroom activities. These experiences helped me develop my creativity, empathy, and leadership skills.

For my second year, I am looking for a warm and respectful family where communication and teamwork are valued. I am open to caring for children of different ages and feel confident taking on multiple responsibilities. My goal is to continue improving my English, continue growing as a person, and become a positive and supportive presence in your children’s lives.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter. I am very excited about the possibility of becoming part of your family and creating meaningful memories together.

Sincerely, Camila Andrea Niño Muñoz
