Geraldine L. – Colombia

Dear Host Family,
My name is Geraldine, but everyone calls me “Gera.” I am 25 years old and live in the beautiful city of Barranquilla with my parents, Simón López and Piedad Rosado; my two siblings, Chadan and Mariana; my grandmother, Eloina; and my two beloved pets, Molly and Thomi.

Two years ago, I earned my degree in psychology with a focus on education— a field that has always been my passion, as it allows me to work closely with children and contribute to their development. Family is the cornerstone of my life. We are a large family with very different personalities, which has taught us to
live together with love and respect. Unity is one of our core values, and we always support each other in achieving our dreams. We love traveling together, sharing family dinners, and, of course, never missing our monthly barbecues, where we cook, laugh, and create beautiful memories.

I have been surrounded by children my entire life, which has given me valuable experience in childcare. From looking after my neighbors’ kids and my friends’ children to my university internships, every moment has strengthened my bond with them. Taking care of children, learning from them, and providing them with love has always brought me joy.

To date, I have cared for four children between the ages of six months and ten years old. One of them I would take to school, stay with during school hours, and assist with academic and social activities. I also had the privilege of caring
for a beautiful baby, ensuring her well-being by feeding, changing, engaging in stimulating activities, and spending quality time with her in the afternoons.

Becoming an Au Pair is a significant decision for me because it combines my love for children with my desire to experience a new culture. This opportunity allows me to immerse myself differently of life, improve my
language skills, and share my own culture with you. I truly look forward to this experience and the possibility of becoming part of your family.
