Au Pair Introduction

Dear Host Family, My name is Melissa Brenda Prado Melchioni, I’m 25 years old, and I’m from Cochabamba, Bolivia. I’m already in the U.S. living in the Arlington, VA / Washington DC area, and I’m so excited to find my host family for the next 10 months + extension for the right match. I grew up in a small town called Arani with my grandma, aunt, uncle, mom, and my brothers Jhonn and Gabriel, plus my little cousins Daniel and Lucianita. Our home was always full of love, laughter, and traditions. I’m the oldest sister, so I’ve been helping take care of babies and kids since I was little. In total, I’ve cared for 10 kids from newborns to 12 years old. I love newborn routines: feeding, diaper changes, soothing, naps and bedtime. I really enjoy being that trusted “big sister” figure for the kids. My family runs a bakery, and I was in charge of managing it. I also handled a lot of the logistics — many times I would deliver orders myself, driving from our town of Arani all the way to the city where our customers were. That experience taught me to be very organized, responsible with time, and confident behind the wheel. My family has also made handmade wool garments and toys for years for a company called AHA BOLIVIA that exports to the U.S. Because of that, I’ve always been curious about American culture. When I was a kid, exchange students would stay at my grandma’s house, and I loved learning about their customs and sharing ours too. Living with other people taught me to be patient, flexible, and a good team player. I studied Commercial Engineering with a focus on International Business because I love learning about different cultures and how the world connects. I’m also really excited to improve my English as much as I can while I’m here. About me and driving: I love to drive and I’m a careful driver.  I have my Bolivian driver’s license and an International Driving Permit. I’m happy to take the kids to school, activities, or on outings. I’m looking for a family that celebrates holidays and birthdays together, includes me in family activities and trips, and sees me as a caring help with the kids, not as a housekeeper. I’m happy to do light housework related to the kids. I’m new to this experience, so I really appreciate a patient family that guides me with kindness and respect, just like I will do with you during the first weeks. In my free time I love going to the gym, running outside, reading books, and taking walks to explore new places and meet new people. I’m a non-smoker, non-drinker, and I’m educated, respectful, and very considerate. I hope we can be the same way with each other. I’d also love to share a bit of Bolivian music and dance with your family if you’d like! Thank you so much for reading my letter and considering me. I would be truly honored to be part of your family and create beautiful memories with your kids. Warmly, Melissa
