Letter To My Future Host Family

Dear host family,

My name is Shirley Garcia Camargo, I'm from the beautiful city of Barranquilla - Colombia, I'm 25 years old; I am currently in the city of Montgomery, Alabama. Starting July 19th I will be living with a temporary family while I am looking for a match with a new family!; My previous family had to travel to another state for work reasons which did not allow me to continue with them; I have spent two months with this American family and it was a great experience. They had two wonderful children in my care (a 4-year-old girl and a 4-month-old baby), with them I left part of my heart as we had great memories and learned a lot of this beautiful culture. When I lived in Colombia I lived with my parents, my older sister and my little niece. In Colombia I was studying business administration at at the Universidad del Atlantico, a career that I temporarily suspended due to being part of this experience as AU PAIR; Before college I was a administrative assistance with knowledge in English. I have also done some short courses such as: (Customer service, hiring and payroll, interpersonal relationships and others); I like the human interaction part of organizations.

I consider myself a very cheerful, fun, flexible, responsible and focused person.
When I was in Colombia I liked to spend time with my family, in my favorite hobbies I had a career, going out at night with a group of friends to exercise, on weekends I usually liked going to the movies or going out to eat.
Here in the United States I try to keep my hobbies by continuing to exercise; and I really hope to enjoy knowing more places of this beautiful country; with my previous family I had the opportunity to travel to different places (Savannah, Tybee Island, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC); This country I have grown to love.

When I was in Colombia, I volunteered at a foundation called "Dividendo por Colombia", where I carried out recreational activities with children of limited resources, craft workshops and other activities.
I love spending time with children, I learn a lot from them; I have a beautiful niece and it has been an incredible experience since I enjoy to see her grow, (how she says her first words, how she learns to walk, her first meals.)
In Colombia I had the opportunity to care for other children of different ages, I was in charge of a 12 month old baby, his name is Nathan. I Looked after that baby for 2 months since his mother was out of the country; also took care of a 3 year old child, (7-9 and the oldest one is 11 years old); I helped them with their homework, I fed them and we spent a lot of time playing, I love playing outside, and when I'm with children, I'm one of them but responsible; I took care of them on Fridays and Saturdays; however, I've known them since they were babies and I've always been very close to them. In my house, I was very independent, I had responsibilities like; (help clean the house, order my room and Sunday always prepared dinner). This has made things easier for me because with my previous family I also helped in the cleaning of the home and I like to do it since I was part of a family and also have responsibilities.

I am interested in continuing with the AU PAIR program, because it is a great opportunity to improve my English, although I have not been able to take my studies credits, I have improved the language a lot; although I could not continue with my first family because of changes in their jobs, I hope to enjoy the benefits of the program (study and have free time); I still think that this program is an opportunity to reach my goals (to grow on a personal level, to know other cultures, to travel around the world). being AU PAIR can open the doors to me to achieve my goals. I want to find a family that can give me stability and open the doors to their house to arrive as a member of it. I would like to continue to grow my English and loose the fear of making common mistakes in communication. Please have patience with me while I learn English. I want to be like an older sister for your children.
