Letter To My Future Host Family

Dear Host Family,

I hope you are doing really great. I appreciate you are taking the time to read my letter. I am going to share some details about myself and why you should choose me as your Au Pair.

My name is Sophia and I am a 22-year-old enthusiastic girl. I was born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia. I am currently taking an online course in digital marketing and teaching basic English. I have a large family, I have a sister who is older than me and I also have several aunties, uncles, and cousins. I am currently living with my mom, she works in the maintenance department in the real estate sector. Some of her responsibilities may include providing support to the customers by submitting and updating tickets and getting someone to perform general maintenance and repair of the customer's properties. Family is important to me and my mom is my biggest supporter, she has taught me to never give up and to keep going forward.

Talking about my hobbies, I am a big fan of podcasts and motivational videos. I like to listen to the School of Greatness podcasts by Lewis Howes. I also like reading, one of my favorites books is ‘The Alchemist’. Fun fact: The following quote from The Alchemist book by Paulo Coelho “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” is my recovery phrase for an app. I also like listening to music, going out for a walk, going to the movies, exploring new places, and spending time with family and friends.

My experience taking care of children dates back to 2018 when I went to Chile and spent around 5 months there. I offered to take care of Derek (the son of one of my sister’s friends). He was only 3 years old however he turned 4 years old when I was about to return to Colombia. I had permission to be in Chile, I paid an extension so I wanted to prepare for my Au Pair Experience. Derek is a great kid, I used to play a lot with him, I used to cook for him, help him with his homework, picking up from school and dress him when we arrived home and so much more. I enjoyed being her babysitter. He is now 7 years old and he still remembers me so I think I left a good impression. On the other hand, from January 2019 to November 2020 I was an occasional babysitter,
I took care of my cousins Gianluca and Adrian. I used to take care of them two times a week. I was there at 8 am and I was leaving at 12 pm when their mom came home. I was in charge of preparing the breakfast for the oldest one and bottle-feeding the baby. The mom showered the baby before I arrived and I showered Adrian when the baby was taking a nap. Gianluca always liked to take a nap at 10 am. The mom told me he wakes up at 6 am every day when she starts to get ready for work. I used to change Gianluca’s diaper and I remember I helped Adrian to learn how to go to the toilet. The potty training was for about 3-4 months.I also used to play with them, Gianluca loved playing puppets and Adrian loved playing ‘Simone Says’. Adrian also liked watching TV so I thought it was a good idea to offer him a reward for 30 minutes of TV if he finished all his food, or if he helped
me pick up the toys.

I want to become an Au Pair because I get along really great with children and I believe this is a good opportunity to improve my English, like the pronunciation and fluency. I also want to learn about the American culture while I take care of children. I am conscious that every girl applying to the program is qualified to do a good job however, you won’t be disappointed if you give me the opportunity to be your Au Pair because I am a very responsible girl, with good principles and values.
After my Au Pair Experience I plan to present the IELTS and with the skills I know I can get by staying in the US for a year with you, it will help me to get a good score. I want to have an international English certificate to put in my CV. I also plan to continue studying marketing.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Hope to hear soon from you and become your next Au Pair.
